All the elements that made the movie special - the epic music, the realistic depictions of characters trying to put their crimes behind them, Howard and Henson’s fraught relationship - are the same reasons I’m already addicted to Empire after just one episode. ‘Empire’ is Basically a ‘Hustle & Flow’ Sequel. Henson performed “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp” with Terrence Howard in the film Hustle & Flow, she did not provide the vocals for her singing parts in I Can Do Bad All by Myself, a 2009 American romantic musical comedy-drama film by Tyler Perry that was released on September 11, 2009. Did Taraji P Henson really sing in Hustle and Flow? Aside from them being the same actors there seems to be a lot of parallels with Deejay and Lucious. I believe Hustle and Flow is made in the same universe as Empire and is directly based on Lucious Lyon’s life. Hustle and Flow is a biopic based on the life of Empire’s Lucious Lyon. He also has a small acting role in the film as part of the entourage of rapper Skinny Black. Kapone - real name Alfonzo Bailey - wrote the songs “Whoop That Trick” and “Hustle & Flow (It Ain’t Over)” for the movie, and performed the song “Get Buck, Get Crunk” for the soundtrack.
